Only owns Hondas. I just bought my Honda odyssey ex-l. I love driving it all the time, but I notice that powering steering is always make noise when you made a 90 degree turn. does that really happen on all Hondas or just on the minivan? For most of you owns Honda odyssey, does your van has that kind of problem too? Give some advise would be great. thanks!

Too many problems that Honda cannot fix.
Tried 6 times still can't fix them, so they have now determined 'normal'.
It is normal for the AC to turn on by itself.
It is normal for it to start vibrating as if going over rumble strips.
It is normal for the front end to make grinding noises.
It is normal for 'Low Battery' message to come on all the time.
By the way, when vibration gets very bad, I've lost throttle response - cannot accelerate.
Has happened three times.
Only 6000 kms on vehicle.
Wish I bought Toyota Sienna or Dodge would have been better.
This is my third and last new Honda vehicle.
Customer service has been pathetic.
Don't buy this lemon on wheels!

Bought this new. Had a noise coming from the front strut at 10K miles. Took it to the dealership and the performed service bulletin 11-038, that fixed the problem for another 10K until the noise came back. Took it back to the dealership and they fix it again. Another 15K or so and the noise came back. Took it back to the dealership, now they found they have to change the struts. Car out of warranty, Honda made me paid for the repair, although it had been documented that this was a problem and they even had a service bulletin out. Do some research and see how many service bulletins there are. I guess 2011 wasn't a good year for Odysseys, and Honda won't stand by their products.

Purchased a year ago, thinking about trading. Drives nice, however there is a vibration under the car while accelerating through the lower gears. Honda recalled it for vibration judder software update - made no difference. Took it back - said they heard the noise and was likely due to poor gas. They actually recommended premium gas to remedy "spark ping". Funny since the car only requires regular gas. American Honda Corp then asked me to take it for a second opinion. When I was at the dealer, I saw a guy bringing his odyssey in for same problem. My '97 Sentra sounds better than this car. The car does drive nice, however can't stand this terrible noise. Wouldn't buy Honda again.

This is my second Odyssey my first was 2010 this one 2012. They both seem to have similar problems with the quality of the front end. I have had the 2012 for 2 yrs now and these are my thoughts. Before I go on let me say that I'm very familiar with how a car works mechanically. With 22,000 miles the van is in the shop for the following problems. Noise in left front, worse in the winter, grinding noise from engine, worse a low idle and strong vibration when applying brakes, worse when on highway. Just received call from service manager and here is the list of things that need to be replaced. Stabilizer links and bushings, Power steering pump, Front brakes and rotors and the two front tires.

My wife and I decided that the Odyssey would be the best bet based on our growing family but soon had doubts.
1. After 4K miles the windows started rolling down automatically when the car was parked - at home, in the parking garage at work, in downtown DC. I took it to the dealership twice before they diagnosed a defective key fob and replaced both keys.
2. At 18K miles we started noticing a little hesitation when driving on the highway between 45-55 miles per hour. I took it to the dealership where they told me the transmission needed to be replaced. Now with a new transmission we have 25K miles and I feel a similar hesitation. I think I need to trade the van before the warranty is up.

Purchased new and had banging transmission problem and stranded around 20K miles.
After 2 weeks of Honda being unable to determine underlying cause of problem, the transmission was replaced with a rebuilt.
I found it concerning that they had rebuilt transmissions already for this new model of transmission when it needed replaced.
Second transmission made it twice as long and started having rough shifting problems.
Replaced again at 60K miles just before end of warranty.
Lucky due to timing, but unlucky with transmissions on this vehicle.
Don't get a touring with the 6 speed because they don't know why this keeps happening.
Otherwise, enjoy the vehicle.

Really, really good, but not great.

Expecting a 3rd child, we knew exactly what we were going to get. Honda is the most reliable motor company out there and are long-trusted in my family. We were so impressed by the build quality. It's like they gathered all the moms of the world and asked them what they wanted in a van and then met ALL demands. I have only two complaints. This car is a Jekyll and Hyde van. In the dry weather, it drives great! But give it some rain and it becomes a monster. The variable cylinder control system SNAPS on and off creating a wrestling match with the stability control system and causes the van to rock side-to-side. Not a good thing on a sick, wet road. The other issue are the brakes (see below).

First a rocker oil sensor caused the engine to hesitate and misfire July 2013. Then Feb 2014 engine misfiring. Barely made it to dealer. Three spark plugs replaced and software update. July 2014 again misfiring, barely running. Made it to the dealer. Three pistons had rings replaced. This is all covered on warranty from a class action settlement I received in the mail.
It appears to me that reliability has gone downhill. The van has 53,000 miles on it.

We have owned the Odyssey less than two months. It has 3,000 miles and has been on one long trip from NC to CT. It has lots of wind and road noise. It only drives well on smooth pavement. The cargo area is poorly designed. There are no tie down hooks to strap in cargo. It seems to be solely designed to haul people. We usually keep a vehicle 7 - 10 years. This one will be gone in 2-3 years. Front seats are uncomfortable.

After 2 years of driving the mini-van, here is my review:
1) Cheap Tires - After 21,000 miles, the original Continental Tires already wore out.
I had to spend over $600.00 for new tires.
2) Too Wide - I had an accident involving my garage and the mini-van fender.
The car is just too wide for my garage.
3) Cheap Spoiler - The spoiler at the top rear of van is made of cheap plastic (but expensive to replace).
I prefer it to be made of metal.
4) Sliding Door Jam - Clicking the pushbutton two times will cause the sliding door to stall.
5) Cheap Plastic Bumpers
6) No Side Molding - Paid about $300 for side molding purchase and installation.
7) Outside Temperatre Gauge not Accurate

Traded our 2007 EX-L RES with 2010 Touring ,and we loved it!.I heard a lot of reviews about transmission problems on odyssey van but so far I didn't have problem with our 07.There are complains about MPG ratings too!you know what, maybe you forgot that this is a 6 cylinder, not 4,so don't expect that it's as fuel efficient as civic. We drove our 07 to New York 2 yrs. ago and I filled the tank twice only all the way.We started from the midwest.Very reliable van!!

We traded in our 03 Honda Odyssey for the 2010 Odyssey and we absolutely love it.
We have had it for 18 months and we have put over 23000 miles on it.
We made 2 long road trips with it and no problems. We have had to change the oil at 15% and rotated the tires, otherwise this van is a absolute must for any family.
The seating for 8 may bit a bit over rated because the middle seat in the 2nd row is small.
Otherwise the vehicle handles well in rain, snow and dry conditions equally.
If I had to change anything I would have gotten the AWD model.

On two different occasions I have had a problem with accidentally leaving the windows and sun roof open.
Apparently this happens if you do a certain combination (one that I haven't figured out yet) on the remote lock.
As a result my vehicle has been flooded when it has rained.
It seems to me there is a better way.

I have two Honda Odysseys a 2011 elite and a 2005 touring. Honda dealerships will not stand behind either one. The 2005 has problems with needing a motor mount due to virbration from variable cylindar management system. Had tires for life if I had maintenance done at the dealer. Went through 4 sets of michelins. None got over 30,000 miles. Honda made dealers by a 30,000 tire changing machine and my tires (free for life started costing me 340 dollars for each new set.
Bought a service contract from Honda dealer and after two years had to replace two windshields. The policy did not cover OEM parts. Now I own a Hybrid part Honda and part Aftermarket crap. Having strut problems; not covered.

Purchased a 2011 Odyssey EX-L w/ NAVI 2 wks ago and really like it.
Looked at the Pilot, but needed the 3rd row seating with trunk space and the Odyssey made the most sense and was more practical.
Did a ton of research and compared it to the Sienna, but actually like the style, drive and interior more with the Odyssey.
Wife was on the fence about driving/owning a mini van, but after 2 weeks she absolutely loves it.
Kids have enough space to spread out between the 2 rows and trips to the store or kids sports activities are a breeze with car-pooling and the trunk space.
I drive a luxury sedan which this doesn?t compare to, but for a functional family vehicle, you cannot go wrong.

Now over 181,000 miles on the car, I think I'm qualified to call the Odyssey a piece of Junk!
The ticking sound a lot of people hear when turning the car; those are no doubt, defective CV shaft and joints.
You just won't find out until you put more miles on the car.

I took the car in at 5,000 miles because of the ticking; the dealer "lubricated" the front strut mounts?

Between 12,000 and 93,000 miles, I had six (6) front brake jobs, including 3 rotor replacements.
Turns out that quite possibly, the Dealer mechanics were not re-installing the rotors to proper specs, and they would warp in no time!
Ever since taking it to my independent shop; Zero problems (brakes).

Many other Defects!

At 3100 miles would not start - just clicked.
It was a Sunday, there was no one to call, seems I didn't buy an extended warranty which would provide Honda Care/roadside.
Charged battery, key dropped at dealership.
Dealer advised nothing wrong, but put in a new battery just in case - mentioned no parasitic drain.
Looked up parasitic drain, seems to be a chronic problem with Odyssey dating back to 2004, that is difficult to fix, and leaves many stranded.
Traded in on a Yukon at a $5k + loss - Honda doesn't care - they don't even answer the phone on Sundays.
By the way, fuel mileage was at worst about 20, at best about 25, with a very light foot, flat and 75% hwy w/ normal a/c use.

This one does it all. No, it does not handle like a sports car nor does it get the mileage of a hybrid, but if you need the space for 8 people and still like a respectable 30 mpg while cruising at 70 mph, then it does what it needs to do. Like a circus clown car, the outside dimensions and driving experience do not begin to tell the full story about just how much space is inside and how much you can do with it. The Honda Odyssey gives you all the minivan benefits while offering the least "minivan like" package.

My wife and I bought this as a Honda Certified car 4/8/2014. A week later, our first baby was born. Let me just say that a minivan is the absolute best vehicle for a family.

We bought an Odyssey LX in Bali Blue (gorgeous color) that I took in on trade at the Honda dealer where I work. At the time, I was hoping for some more features (tri-zone climate control, power sliding doors) but over the past few months, I have just been so pleased with this van! We've only put about 5,000 miles on it, but I'm really impressed.

The A/C works great, it's easy to park, smooth and quiet on the freeway, and the engine has plenty of power. I would buy it again in a heartbeat!

I purchased this new in 2012 and paid cash for this car. It broke down on the interstate 150 miles from Atlanta with a clogged ERG valve with 30,000 miles on it.
The carborator broke apart also and it spent 7 days in the shop.
This was in 2013. Now, 4/2014, I drove 1,000 miles after I changed the oil & all the oil is burning up!
They are going to re-built the entire engine because it is burning oil at a rate of a 30 year old car! I will Never purchase a Honda again!
Do your research because I have after all these problems and many Honda owners have had similar problems.
They are lemons and my $40,000 went down the drain! I will Never Buy Honda Again!

The ride is very smooth and the van feels so solid, it really feels like you are driving an Acura.
We got the EXL to get a ton of goodies and nothing too frivilous.
I can't consider $2k for nav when I need it once a year and can buy an aftermarket for $200.
And I don't want my kids watching DVDs the second they get in the car.

The EXL has tons of great features; my favorite being the CD Library -- it'll record about 400 songs from your CDs to a hard drive.

The safety is top notch, great crash test, large rear view camera is very comforting.

We've been averaging 24 mpg in mild weather -- no A/C.

It's the only minivan you can fit 2 carseat and a Granni in the middle row.

The dealership was great, the service is fabulous, and Honda's reputation is the best, which is why I bought the van in the first place.
However, I will not buy another Honda or a van.
I was just stuck on a tiny hill in the snow for :15 minutes until some good person towed me up the hill.

This van is not comfortable to me to drive, and it does not allow electronic devices to be charged when the vehicle is off.

After comparing to Sienna we desided to go with the Odyssey. Van looked great but we noticed excessive vibration from day 1. Contacted dealer and they said it will smooth out once broken in. This didn't happen and after many visits back to the dealer to balance tires, update computer etc etc the issue is still there and since they can't solve it we're now being told this vibration is normal. Also the paint on the plastic parts doesn;t match the rest of the car - also normal according to Honda. Road noice was a little more than I expected as well

Honda is getting cheaper, too.

I was looking for a reliable minivan with ample space, high reliability and high resale value. The Odyssey clearly delivers in that space and surprised me with great performance and decent mpg
- I get about 27 MPG on average. From that view and the resale value, it?s an economical choice, even though Odysseys got rather expensive. $38K for a mid-level model is rather pricey for what you get in the end and when you look at the cheap plastics that are used throughout the car. The tech in the car is surprisingly mature. The most annoying feature is without doubt the auto-lock of doors. I can?t remember how often I run out to the garage and only find all doors, except the driver?s door, locked.

I used to love it and now I want to melt it down to form a casket.
I averaged 33 miles all the time until a few months ago.
I now average 11, yes you read correctly a third of what I used to get.
Two dealerships cannot explain this, they did replace the struts.
Why?!
I have never had a car that needed this work before this soon.
The other issue is the gremlins...the Bluetooth switching from phone to van to phone to van, etc while on call or not.
The last irritating issue is the computer reset, the car resets itself as if you just refueled it but you haven't.

I always loved Honda's, but now really disappointed. Engine is not enough (now 2014 still using the same weak engine, the Accord V6 gets 30 additional HP!). I am very upset with the sliding doors, worst design ever! Keeps beeping & stalling, Chrysler makes it better and also the Sienna. Wipers leaves 7 inches un-wiped. Ride is smooth but bad & loud on bumps. (Chevy Traverse is 10x better). At 17,000 miles it started vibrating, I had to change brakes/rotors! Steering wheel feels over-sized. Steering feel not great. Climate controls not intuitive. Remote key fob sucks, and still no remote starter! Turning circle not as tight as Sienna. Ugly gauges. Service engine light not good. Ugly Exterior!

We traded in our 2000 Odyssey with 120k miles, for a brand new 2010 EX-L. It has better performance than the older model but less room in back. We used to be able to stow stuff under the 3rd seat but the 2010 is now
blocked off. Also, the sticker advertises 25 mpg hwy but we've never received better than 20 mpg after 6k miles. Also, disappointed there is no factory option for a hands-free Bluetooth. Other than that ,the quality is good, no problems yet.

I bought this van a year and half ago.
It was the best purchase I have ever made.
I haul around 3 large dogs, 3 children from 5-13 and there is still room for the husband and our luggage.. I put 25k miles on the van in less than 2 years. I only ever had in the shop for routine oil changes and tire rotation.
I bought this van for its convenience, comfort and above all safety.
The van is loaded with safety features.
Sadly, just this week I was t-boned from the drivers rear by a driver speeding off an exit ramp. The van performed exactly the way I had hoped it would should an accident occur.
The van is totaled and I am walking with only minor injuries.
If you want safe, get Honda!
