Have a 2012 Pilot for 6 Months bought brand new . The seats are extremely
hard and an inch shorter than my jeep
, the lumbar does not retract far enough , can't shut the middle vents off , accidently knocked it out of gear changing the radio dial, sunroof blow directly on your head ,
very loud over bumps and on highway, can't open one or all the windows without a very loud noise that sounds like it will blow your eardrums out ! Radio / heat controls Not at all easy to control , inside of front tires wearing badly after 12000 miles, 4 adults cant fit comfortably , vibration in the front end . the wiper, and light controls are hidden behind the str wheel , Can't wait to get rid of it !!!!!

I drove literally a dozen different SUVs, domestic, foreign, you name it I drove it.
The pilot is the best you can get, hands down.
We thought we were sold on the Tahoe or suburban, or gmc and ford equivalents, but they are incredibly expensive and totally unreliable.
We bought our pilot used with 44k miles on it and you would think its new.
Transmission is smooth as silk and the 4x4 is second only to jeep.
We take our 4x4's to the beach every year and the pilot can almost hang with the wrangler and would if it had a locker in the differential.
If you complain about this truck, you are too picky and should probably buy used.
My only complaints so far is the ridiculous Eco mode.

Bought back in 2012 with 45k on it, has about ~80k now.
Very reliable, all I've done is perform scheduled maintenance.
Gets around 19 mpg but if driving with a light foot you can get around 22 avg.
I love the ECO mode that will switch the engine to 4 cyl when driving on highways.
I just the rear had A/C vents in the roof as opposed to having them at knee-level.
It's a Honda, so I EXPECT it to last for years to come!
Great car, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good reliable SUV.
One thing that is weird that might be unique to mine is that the buttons on the radio will occasionally not work, but the volume and tune nobs work fine.

Not what was advertised.

The 2011 Pilot we purchased was advertised as habing 22 mpg on the hhighway and 18 in the city which we considered good for a SUV this size.
We wer disappointed to find out that the car receives 18 highway and 15 in the city.
We have also discovered that the tires need replacing after only 2 years and 28,000 miles.
When I asked if theis was normal the dealer said it could be.
Again, we were disappointed to find out the tires had no warranty from either the car or tire manufacturer.
We have had to bring the cr n for 4 recall checks which seems rather high.
Overall, a nice car but not worth the money and less than advertised.

I would not have bought my Pilot if I had known that there was a "normal vibration" when cruising in ECO mode.
Mine is very noticable at 1500 RPM and even according to technician, it shouldn't be there.
My car has 5K miles on it.
I would have spent my $38K on a different vehicle if I had known this.
If you are considering buying a Pilot, test drive it thoroughly at 1500 RPMs!!!

Traded in our 08 Accord in Nov. 09 for our 10 Pilot LX.
First thing we did was go to ebay & bought (4) Touring wheels (Brand new).
Then we bought the running light kit from a Honda dealer in Ohio.
I then bought a custom grill kit from CarID in Ca. and two chrome pipe extensions.
We also bought the faux chrome strips that go in the door guards.
After taking off that goofy looking grill, installing the awesome billet grill (2 pc. upper & lower) installing the running lights and exhaust extensions and door chrome this LX is awesome.
The good part.... I saved $4500 by doing it myself.
Absolutely love the big roomy SUV.... have driven it to Florida and back and to Ohio and back. # 1 car

Honda pilot is a great car, roome and comfortable.
To prevent engine vibrations in "eco" mode, which is only happens in cold weather,
use premium fuel in winter and mid grade or regular in summer.
Fill out a full tank with premium fuel and drive 75 mph on Highway with D3 on for about 20 miles and it's gone. Pilot is much beter choise that his rival's Pathfinder and Grand Cherokee, because they aretrue lemon cars with transmission problem's.

I ended up with my 2012 pilot after a long search for a decently priced SUV that would accommodate 3 car seats across the middle seat because I have triplets and did not want a minivan.
I have owned 3 other SUV's and the Pilot, being the 4th, is by far the nicest and most reliable.
I have about 27,000 miles on mine and, to date, have not experienced any of the vibration problems others have written about.
You get a lot for the money with this car and even better is that it really holds its value. I definitely plan on driving this one into the ground!

My wife had this vehicle for a month.
While driving, when the engine went into ECO mode there would be a stutter and hesitation.
The entire floor would vibrate.
I researched this problem and it seemed that a lot of people were having the same issue without a fix.
I traded the vehicle in instead of dealing with this.
Bought a highlander and it runs much better.

I have had my 2012 for 1.5 years now and 25,000 miles later.
No major issues to date that left me stranded, getting the AC noise hopefully fixed this friday and warped rotors already.
What is concerning is the vibration at 70mph.
I would be cautious when buying this car, there is something going on here with the cylinder deactivation system.
My car was fine till around 23k and then all of a sudden I have vibration coming from the front into the steering wheel and car.
Its not alot but can tell its from the engine.
Set the car at cruise 70mph on flat road, let it start to climb uphill slowly in eco mode and you will feel the vibration.

..and that's saying a lot - this is my 9th vehicle, 4th Honda, and 2nd Honda Pilot. Had my first Pilot ('05 model) for 7 years. Just bought a 2014 EX 4WD. There is NO engine vibration when in the VCM (aka, ECO) mode. Honda has reduced exterior noise considerably from my first Pilot - this one has a very quiet interior. Very smooth engine and transmission - typical Honda. Fantastic amount of interior space and cargo room. Great looking SUV, unlike many of the so-called modern SUVs that look like ugly, glorified station wagons. I love everything about the Pilot. The USB port and bluetooth hands-free link are much appreciated. Thanks Honda!!!

We bought our Honda Pilot in May 2012, and absolutely love it!
It's super roomy and there is so much space in the back (3rd row seats down) that we went on a road trip with 2 little kids and still had plenty of room to put more luggage in the back.
I take it out to construction jobsites and love how it drives like a truck through rough terrain, but yet it feels smooth and sturdy when I'm on the freeway.
This is an SUV we are going to keep until the wheels fall off.
If you have little kids, you might want to buy seat covers if you have the cloth seats, as they do tend to stain easily.

We have taken the pilot to N J and then to disney world. We now have over 12k miles. The pilot has good maners on the interstate.and is comfy on long trips. The mileage seems to average 25.6 or better.I drafted an 18 whlr for a 100 miles and got 27.8 but thats another story.Only things we have found are the audio sys when using a flash drive is unpredictable(songs will repeat come up diff order etc.)And when hot in traffic if you turn right hard then step on gas will 5out of 6 times hesitate before going, will also do same if you leave a light and have to let off gas then get back in it.Over all we are very happy with pilot as compared to
Nissan.Wife has hard time backing in driveway at night.

Purchased 2012 EXl with Nav almost 2 years ago.

Averaging 17mpg city, 21 hwy.
Far less than rated but that's the case on all cars I've driven save my 2008 bmw 3 series that gets more than epa ratings...

Drives well, have issues with front tires on lose ground given the power of the suv, tires do slip especially given the tires since they are for mpg vs handling.

inside, appointments are great.
love the radio, blue tooth syncs well with phones via usb or blutooth.

standard audio package is good, did not see need for upgraded audio.

rear camera - mixed blessing.
use it only as general help, do not rely on it.
use your mirrors and turn your head.
sensors would be nice.

Have had my 2012 Pilot 2 months. When driving at constant speed the ECO Variable Management system seems to keep transmission from downshifting appropriately and you can feel a vibration/rough driving until you accelerate or cancel the cruise control. First service had it checked. Tech said it seemed to be a problem but did not throw a code. He called Honda Tech line. Told that they have complaints about this, but it was just characteristic of the 2012 Pilot. Today I went to the Dealer and drove another 2012 Pilot. Yep, it did it too.Thought I would work out a trade of my new 2012 for a 2013, but..you guessed it, the 2013 did it too! Beware -Honda definitely has an engineering issue here!!

The Pilot is a decent SUV. The acceleration is pretty good for an SUV though you really have to rev it if you want the full power of the startup torque.
Highway driving is fun with this vehicle as the gear changes are smooth. Spacious interior with quality leather and the foldable backseat help since I carry heavy equipment with the work I do. I don't really use the entertainment much unless I have friedns with me. The Nav system works well and
efficiently. My only issue with the vehicle was for a while, the Hold button on my key wasn't opening the trunk and I had to do it manually. Then a week later, it would work, and then stop working. But now it seems that problem is gone.

Excellent choice and still enjoy driving it.

Great alternitive to a minivan and it has 4wd (on demand AWD I guess). The only issue was the cheap tires that came with it lasted only 28k miles. It is very comfortable and can tow my 20 ft boat pretty well. Love the SUV rugged look even though it's more of a soccer mom crossover. We have had great lck with this vehicle and plan on keeping it forever.

I bought a 2010 Pilot on 3/2010. The first problem I had was the TPMS light was on the entire time. The sales person said to drive it and it was go off and if it is still on come back and we'll fix it. So we drove it for one day and took it back the following week. They looked into and said its the sensor. So they replaced it and then we picked it up again and it came back on. It was so fustrating. So then we took it back again and they keep my car for 2 weeks. This time it wasn't the sensor. It was the wire that was installed incorrectly. My boyfriend took a picture and showed me. They had to take the whole dash board off to rewire everything.

We purchased our EX-L with 29K miles on it.
This is what you get.
Solid, sturdy build inside and out.
Smooth driving experience.
I have not had any issues accelerating or braking.
Lots of room, especially in the third row.
You actually have room to put some suitcases in the back with the third row up which is something that can't be said for many SUVs.
The plastic is plastic...it's not any cheaper than other vehicles.
It is classy and very functional with no flash.
That is what you get with Honda.

After owning 5 Hondas with no problems the time came to pull the trigger on our biggest purchase to date..a new 2013 Pilot EX-L 4x4, to accommodate our 3rd child.

We purchased our pilot in September of 2012. I immediately noticed a bad vibration in Eco and have taken it to Honda 2 times now. I have also had a problem with the brake pedal being squishy. Honda won't do anything about the vibration, and they bled the brakes claiming there was nothing wrong with them.
The dealership is also stating that Honda says the vibration is normal in my make and model..WHAT!!..NORMAL!!!!
This is a $37,000 vehicle. Honda I'm opting out of the class action suit and suing.
I suggest others do the same.

Purchased 2.5 yrs ago and is a major dissappointment. Also own 2003 (which we love). If trading up from that, you will be very dissappointed. +
smoother transmission v. 2003. road noise better
Neg.:
recall problems - inferior paint resulting in rust - is happening to ours. Also serious recall on missing airbag harness screws.
Other issues:
terrible mileage, transmission problems - stranded
us on a road trip & not covered by warranty, door hinges mis-aligned so door wouldn't close properly, undersized brakes - rotors warped at 10,000 miles, poor location of shifter (knock into neutral with knee) reduced center console space/clausterphobic, cheap materials, stain prone seats/cant get out

I traded a CRV for this 2013 Honda Pilot 4WD Touring. The Pilot came home and immediately had a moonroof leak that soaked the interior. The drain tubes were disconnected from the factory. That should have been a sign. The MPG never made it to 25 on the highway, and averages
of 15-17 were common in mixed driving over 7000 miles, even with minimal passengers. The VCM was horrible. Sometimes it felt like a bad torque converter, other times it stumbled on flat ground regularly while activating/deactivating cylinders. The only way to tolerate driving it is to drive it in D3, which shouldn't be necessary on a 40K vehicle. We traded back into a Camry SE V6. Honda has VCM troubles.

I just purchased a 2011 Pilot EX-L with navigation (FWD).
It has 19, 000 miles on it.
I admit the gas mileage is disappointing, especially considering it does not have 4WD.
I am still getting about 20 mpg on the highway, around 15 in town.
I agree that the interior appears cheaply made but will withhold judgment until I see how it holds up.
I am wondering if anyone else has experience with the FWD model?
I live in a snowy area, but in the six years I owned my first pilot, did not once use the 4WD option.
Hoping that the traction control and good snow tires will keep me going.
One day after I bought the pilot we had a pretty significant snow storm and had no problems...

We drove every midsize SUV there was available and it came down to the Toyota Highlander and the Honda Pilot.
The Toyota drove better, more like a car, but it only seated 7 people.
The Honda was closer to real 4WD (still not real but close) and seated 8...a real 8 full sized adults.
Some that seated 7 really only seated 5 adults and 2 kids in the 3rd row.
In the end we needed the full 8 seats and while the interior does not have much style to it, it is functional.
I wish I would have waited another year as Bluetooth became a standard interior feature that was only available on the Touring in 2010.
Other than that this is a great midsize SUV to own.

Before we purchased our 2012 Honda Pilot, we test drove all of the top similar-sized SUVs. For appearance, comfort, space, 4x4 capability, and handling we decided to go with the Pilot.
First, let me tell you that the Pilot is one of the most comfortable cars that I have ever driven. The heated leather seats rival even my sofa in comfort. The back seats also recline and the third row offer regular-sized seats.
The car handles very well in all kinds of weather (we live in Vermont) and tackles our summer pot holes and severe winter storms with ease.
We have 20,000 miles on our Pilot and this car has been 100% reliable.
The fuel economy is great for a car this heavy and big.

After 4 months, the sunroof started to leak.As soon as the 36K mile warranty ran out, transmission issues. 3 months ago, more transmission issues. Last month, brand new battery went dead 3x in a week.
Took the battery back but it checked ok as did alternator. Dealership was stumped said it was fine. Left me stranded and having to call tow truck twice. Turns out - another dealership 4 hours from home where I happened to be stranded - found an A/C switch was malfunctioning causing battery drain. Can't wait to find a replacement. It won't be a Honda.

I have owned my Pilot EX for two years (bought it new) and have approximately 50,000 miles on it. Absolutely no problems and it has performed as expected.
It has plenty of power and is very comfortable.
It handles very well and is easy to drive.
It does very well in snow (better than my old Subaru).
It is a perfect family vacation vehicle. It seats 8 and has plenty of leg room in both the second and third rows.
All seats are comfortable but it seems to be slightly lacking in knee space in the driver's seat.
You can't go wrong with a Honda Pilot. There are fancier SUV's out there but when all things are considered, you can't beat a Honda.

From the day I drove the car off the lot, I have had concerns about vibration noises and hesitation in the engine. I am just about up with my warranty period and have complained about these issues every time I go for service. The dealer maintains there are no bulletins that address this issue; however, I have noted on other sites that there are complaints about this issue.

Other than that, I love the car - especially the extra space for transporting lots of stuff. I also appreciate Honda's pricing structure - unlike Toyota's which is difficult to figure out.

I purchased my Pilot in November of 09 so it is one year old now. I have not experienced any of the problems that others have mentioned i.e. chipping paint, pulling to the right and moonroof problems. I am really happy with the way the car drives. The mileage could be better but, the mileage is what the sticker said it would be. I don't understand why so many reviewers say they are so surprised with the mileage they get? The navigation system is wonderful and I really love having the back up camera and noise sensors. There is only one thing I don't like. It has two empty places on the driver's left hand side of the dash. What are they there for? It makes it look like something is missing

There are better options out there

It handles like a truck and not an SUV on a uni-body chassis as claimed.
It is under powered and not very responsive. I travel for work and have had other SUV's that put Pilot to shame in terms of performance. DVD navigation is already outdated, don't pay for it, use your phone and have better technology. Voice recognition is horrible. No other way to add/delete/pair phones. I rented a Toyota and it took less than 15 seconds to learn how and pair a phone.
Plus it played music through BT.
Sound system in this "loaded" Pilot sounds horrible. Honda will not be on our short list when it's time to replace. They've lost touch with what's important to consumers, hence Civic redesign.

The Bad...This is easily the worst car I've ever owned. The active fuel management does not work properly. After many trips to the Honda dealer, they say that the car is OK and nothing is wrong. At 60 - 70 MPH the car vibrates and sounds like its gasping for air. An audible sound from the engine compartment is easily heard when the engine transitions from 6 cylinders to 4. Dump the tires too. They are so rock hard for milage purposes that after 25,000 the ride is rough.

When in ECO mode and you encounter a slight grade where there is a light loading on the engine, it vibrates and makes a droning noise.
It does it anywhere from 35mph and up including highway speeds.
It did not do it on my Odyssey in ECO mode.
The shop mechanic first said it was "Normal".
I have had 20+ cars in the last 50 years and this isn't normal.
Then he said this was very typical of the 2013 Pilots.
Honda mad a design change in 2013 and don't apparently don't have a clue how to fix it!

This is my second Pilot, I loved our 2005 model. But this review is for our 2012. As you research the 2012, many Pilot owners will complain about a vibration at various speeds, it is very annoying and I hate it. The dealer says the same thing to everyone that complains, it is normal, it is the variable cylinder management system. Maybe normal for Honda, but not something you should feel EVERYTIME you drive it, it should be seamless. I told a service writer to enter it on the service ticket, he did it by hand, guess Honda doesn't want proper documentation or a paper trail. Otherwise it's a great vehicle if you need to haul 8 people around.

We bought new in 12/2009, so have had for 3.5 years and only have 30k miles on, so mostly city driving.
Never been in the shop except for oil and tires.
Tires are 60k Michelins that wore out at 28k, but Michelin prorated replacement.
It is a well thought out car when compared to competitors and much better value than the competitors.
Engine is adequate, but certainly not a V8.
Mileage is a little below represented, but likely 10% Ethanol in Gas is largely to blame. Thanks government.
Get 21 Hwy and 16 City. Very stable on Hwy and great in snow.
Third row is great and large carrying capacity when both rows down. Would definitely purchase again.

If you want to be left on the side of the road waiting for a tow, purchase this SUV.
The first time the engine misfired and broke down the truck was 3 months old. We thought nothing of it, but the 2nd time it was 3 years old so we investigated and found out about the class actions suite.
(Google Honda Pilot class action suite misfire)
Nothing like being on a road trip to the north for Christmas fully packed with a baby and a small child and breaking down in rural PA. After the truck was repaired and Christmas was over I drove it straight to a Ford dealer and traded it for new Explorer. I will never purchase another Honda.

There is a problem when the car goes into ECO mode.
The dealer told me it was normal and that I must be over sensitive to vibration & sound.
It feels like a "hesitation" or "stutter" and is NOT normal! *sigh*
I love everything else about my Pilot, but am sad to say I'm currently looking to trade it due to this issue.

Well....don't look any further.
If you have not owned a Honda (my 5th), you don't know what I mean.
Honda reliability, over all comfort, safety, service, price, ( did I mention reliability & safety) and the best dealers around...it's a no-brainer!
I get a soild 22mpg all the time and get a 25mpg on cruise, level ground, at 65mph.
Beat that anywhere.
You are also riding in the safest vehicle make on the market!
We live were it snows... no worries it performs great!
The 8 passenger capacity will haul the gang in style, without leaving that "one" behind.
Just go and drive the Pilot you will come home with it!
Financing has always beat the others hands down.
Go see for yourself!!
