I bought my 2012 re-designed Versa sedan in November of 2011.
Initial overall value appeared excellent, but shortcomings are becoming evident, hopefully they have engineered-out these problems.
This was the first vehicle I have owned with an automatic transmission, let alone the CVT, so I opted for an extended warranty. Thank God I did since it had to be replaced at 80K miles.
Have replaced every exterior bulb at least once.
Tire pressure sensor light goes on and rear right tire goes flat about every 2 weeks unexplained.
Plastic dashboard attracts lint like I have a cat sitting up there.
CVT/engine combination sounds like it is going to blow up when strong acceleration is needed.

You get what you pay for and then some!

Ok, ignore all other reviews and pay close attention to this one about the 2012 Nissan Versa Sedan. This is a utilitarian vehicle...no frills and no nonsense. It will not make you grin when you drive it but then again, it's not supposed to. It gets you from a-b very well and very cheaply. It has all of the convenience
features you need and none you really don't. It's cheap to operate and in my experience very reliable.

I was driving at 30 miles an hour and my new versa with 7000 miles. All of the sudden my computer went off and i could not use the brakes. I was lucky to avoid an accident. I said I do not feel safe in this car to Nissan and Lokey of Clearwater and they said they will just repair the car. At first they didn't know what was wrong and then they fixed the ABS chip and recalibrated the computer. I drove the car and one week later I was going 50 mph and the brakes were all the way in and they were barely stopping. Luckily I avoided the accident. I called Nissan and they ignored me and said that there is nothing they can do for me. So now they fixed the master cylinder. I feel very unsafe driving.

Good value (if it doesn't break)

I own the most basic model of the versa. For the price, the value is pretty good. The car is very roomy, more than what you would expect. Looks are also ok. Driving, it has enough power to get you places but take it easy on the road because it does not grip well and gets tossed around by the wind like a leaf. Reliability has been terrible for my car, I would be broke if it wasn't for the warranty. In one year and less than 18,000 miles, it's had 4 significant mechanical problems already. Loose muffler shield, damaged sway bar links, malfunctioning valve, and foggy headlight.

Biggest drawback in this car is the engine. Noisy, buzzy, underpowered. At times hesitated on takeoff. Good MPG at 34 average though. The CVT transmission which took some time to get use to would seemed like it wasn?t sure what (gear) it should be in. The car seems to ride and drive ok. Lots of back seat leg room and big trunk for a small car. Over all the car was okay but not as nice driving of a car as my sisters new Ford Focus with close to the same MPG.

New so new I shouldn't be writing this review yet.

I bought a sedan over the Note even though I could have gotten a Note for a lot less. I like the sedans looks better.

I bought the car for the gas mileage, interior space and trunk size. I am a large guy and fit with no problems.

I did not buy it because it is a sport sedan, but it is practical for my daily commuting needs.

Many reviews I read on here this site and others make me wonder how many are disgruntled owners that wanted a more expensive car (ALTIMA) and could only afford the Versa!?!

I could have bought most any Nissan on the lot, but I chose the versa-tility of the Versa sedan

Realistic expectaiton still to much to meet for this car

Just hit 68k and the CVT is shot. First thing to give me problems were the breaks at about 12k. From there is was heat shields on the exhaust to door seals. I bought this car to get back and forth to work (150mile round trip). All I expected was a affordable car to get me to and from work at the most reasonable cost. I purchased the Nissan after comparing it to my normally purchased vehicles and it was a better value, it actually exceeded in over all space in a real world comparison to Chevy and Ford. MPG avg is 37.1 but the 10.9 tank.....10 gal usable, keeps me at the gas station every 2 to 3 days. As of now it is dead in my driveway, will not move.

Although I like the comfort and style, the MPG rating is way over rated.

Driving it on the highway and city mixed I get 26 MPG.

I reset the average counter, drove 75 miles on the highway with cruise control @ 60 mph and still under 30 MPG.

"Bought an SV model and have close to 200 miles in.
It's terrific!! Just what I was looking for.
It get's me from point A to point B without spending lot's of hard earned cash. If you are looking for luxury then recommend the Acura line, or possibly Honda, but for normal commute, it's perfect. Getting about 36 mpg average and loving it. The CVT doesn't bother me so far (based on reviews) - actually it is smoother than most normal tranny cars I've driven. I did own a Datsun B-210 (manual) and an Altima so I do like Nissan.
LOTS of room.
My opinion - this car's ingenuity sticks out at me and I'm definitely loving it. Take one out for a test drive and you'll see. I did, and now I own one!!"

When I purchased my 2012 Versa hatchback, it was the least expensive new car available in North America. And the car is what it is.

On the positive side, the car always started. I consider that a big plus. Also, the interior, which is naturally cheap and flimsy, is designed to feel deceptively roomy.

On the negative side, right after my warranty expired, the keyless entry stopped working on the front doors and the hatchback. The front passenger door and the hatchback wouldn't open at all.
A part in all the doors had to be replaced, and it was a very expensive repair. The dealership decided to do the work free, due to
the car had only been out of warranty for a few weeks.

I haven't found a single realistic review. Im going to try to give you one with this horribly short space. The cost, for what it is is good. It's one of the cheapest new cars you can own, great gas mileage and Nissan makes good quality cars.

When actually driving. You have large blind spots. Looking out the windows including rear is very difficult due to the design of the seats specifically, along with the shape and size of the windows themselves. This is a safety hazard. Merging into traffic especially the highway, or anywhere will need you to be defensive and deliberate. Very touchy turning. If you are distracted for a few seconds you could easily go into another lane by accident.

The day I received a $3500 estimate to fix my 6 year old Prius was the day I TRADED IN that 6 year old Prius & Got my BRAN NEW Versa ...
Even Up,
No Regrets :)

A year later I now have 45,000 miles on my Versa. Ive delivered pizza with it in the ice & snow storms of Northern Wisconsin to the heat indexes & humidity of South Mississippi. I get 36mpg Delivering in town with the air ON and 44mpg on freeways.

I only use a full synthetic 0w-20 motor oil and keep the car serviced. Ive Driven this car Long, & Very, Very, Hard - and it has never faltered me or slowed me down.
It never ceases to Amaze me how much power and room I can have under 15 Grand all-the-while averaging 40 mpg.

I've had this car and driven it daily for for two years now. I've put 34,000 miles on it in that time. I've had no problems with it. It's solid and reliable. This is a no-frills economy car. It does not handle like a sports car, and it is not as comfortable as a luxury car. But it gets the job done without giving you headaches, and it gets excellent gas mileage. It has a very roomy interior for its size, and it has a huge trunk. I've been averaging between 35 to 39 mpg in all kinds of driving conditions.

Perhaps the most uncomfortable car I've driven.

To be fair, this is a long-term rental, so I don't have an emotional attachment. With that said, I find the Versa a hard car to love.

A slight breeze can be dangerous. Driving in windy Texas is especially challenging as it requires constant corrections to keep it pointed between the stripes. You don't drive the Versa, the Versa drives you. Sometimes I fell it has a death wish.

It's loud and uncomfortable on long trips. MPG's are good. A solid 37.5 MPG on long 75 MPH highway stretches, but a 10 gal tank requires frequent stopping.

It's not for tall people. No telescoping steering wheel and the sit up straight seats wear you out.

Nice car for the value, and price. I leased this Sedan got a great deal 130.00 a month for 24 months. I cant complain, I looked at all vehicles and this was the best deal for a new car lease. Yes, its not a sports car or very smart in terms of technology and drivablility, but its very practicle. Im a student and need a car that is cheap and good MPG, this car was a no brainer. My only complain is that on highway speeds 60mph plus it has a tendency to swerve in high wind drafts, but its not to bad once you get out of the wind tunnels. But the car drives solid, I like the stiff suspension, conering could be improved, but overal for the price its a hands down car.

My son needed a commuter car for college, so I spent days looking for the right vehicle for him. I looked at new cars, used cars, cars on Craigslist and finally I ran across this vehicle at Hertz Car Sales. Most sub compact cars have very little head or backseat leg room, but I was amazed it had enough room, even from a 6-2 guy like me.
It??s phenomenal on gas and was a good value, compared to other vehicles I considered. We just purchased this vehicle, but so far we are ecstatic with the performance and gas mileage

I could review this car if I could actually use it!! I have not been able to use my car since it was broken since the day they gave it to me. Nissan and its laughable excuse for customer service have had my car for over a 3 weeks and I bought it 4 weeks ago. And they still can't fix it. I have asked for a refund or a new car and they just hang up the phone or redirect me to my contract which basically says "hahaha we screw you over". Listen to this precautionary tale - Don't trust Nissan ever.

Bought a Nissan Versa SL. The cabin has more than enough space for four passengers, as well as providing comfortable seats. The interior is completely made of hard plastic, make sure your foot doesn't hit the door on the way out. The 1.6L engine is adequate around town and really does sip gas. On the highway, there's tons of wind noise, and the CVT, while providing smooth acceleration and excellent fuel economy, can be heard at any speed. Don't be fooled by the 109 hp rating, the car has more than enough get up and go. Excellent visibility all-around, smooth ride.

Has no storage for driver to access items like center console. Drove me crazy so I bought one off ebay for $45 works and matched perfect. No place for glasses either. Cup holders are placed odly to far up and the others to far back. No inside trunk release. Complained to dealer right corner panel loose and no place to hang gas cap they told me all versas are like that? Very squirley on fwy in wind and rides a little rougher than I would expect for a new car . but I do like the car even with these negatives see favorite features.

If I could give this negative stars, I would. This was the first brand new car that we had ever owned. We took such good care of it, changed the oil religiously, did all maintenance, everything we were supposed to. Two years and 80,000 miles later, the car is toast. The transmission is shot and there are so many other problems, the dealership said it was probably not worth fixing. Nissan refused to even discuss any kind of deal. They refused to give the name of the operations manager who refused help. I will never buy another Nissan and will tell everyone how awful they are. Do not buy Nissan.

I run a fleet of vehicles including 5 of these.
We typically run our cars between 40k-50k mi. per year.
Of the 5, 2 of them had the CVT transmissions fail within the 1st year.
One of these now needs a second trasmission replacement at 82K.
Our local dealer, Harte Nissan in Hartford, CT, is working with us the best they can with the replacement costs but Nissan is not stepping up to the plate.
Nissan knows their CVT's are problematic and have extended their warranties on other years/models, but not this one.
I will not be buying any more Nissan's for our fleet.
BTW, even when they work correctly, the CVT is a annoying transmission especially with a small, low torque motor.

I purchased a 2012 Nissan Versa SV certified preowned in September of 2013 with 25k miles. For the first seven months, the car was fine, but after that is when all issues started to occur.

My brakes were making noises when I would hit them. It was a whistling noise. I paid to my rotors resurfaced, but that wasn't the issue. I needed the rear shoes replaced. About four months later, my transmission failed at 34k miles. Right after that, my starter went bad and right after that I needed new brake calipers. Everything accept rotors were under warranty. The car would make weird noises that went undiagnosed. All of these issues occurred before hitting 36k miles. Traded car in after 1 year.
