This is our fifth Honda.
We bought it for the reliability that we have come to love and expect from Honda.
The transmission is worthless in this vehicle.
It jerks violently between 1st and 2nd gear.
The problem is intermittent, but happens quite often (especially in Houston heat).
I have brought it in 3 times now and the dealer thinks I am crazy.
I spent $41,000 on a piece of trash.
I am absolutely beside myself with frustration.
I intend to pursue the lemon-law in the wonderful state of Texas.
I would not wish this vehicle on my worst enemy!

This is our 2nd odyssey , first one is 2005.
It is a much improvement, very refined quiet, very comfortabe, and fun to drive. it takes the curves better than the old odyessey, despite of the reduced road feel secondary to the electric power steering. The driver seat is very comfortabe. I choose this over the Mercedes GL 450, essentially I have every thing for 1/2 the price and Honda reliblity and good resale value.
the car does not lack any horse power, push the gas and vtec kicks in at 4000 rpm and the car flies, most of the time you do not need that with family and kids. It realY feels liKe a sedan. 4000 miles no problems.
Gas consumption much better than my old odyassey.

I do not own this car, however, I am frequently asked to drive it as favors.
First off, this car replaces a 2000 Odyssey which has cloth seats and gets better gas mileage with the same size engine. The cloth seats in the 2000 are more comfortable for long trips.
The car drives and handles well and the backup camera works great.
My main complaint are the leather seats. Up to approximately 100 miles, the seats are comfortable enough. After that, you may start experiencing numbness and sharp pains in your butt and legs. My passengers were also complaining about the seats during a trip back from NYC to the Poconos.

This is my second Odyssey my first was 2010 this one 2012. They both seem to have similar problems with the quality of the front end. I have had the 2012 for 2 yrs now and these are my thoughts. Before I go on let me say that I'm very familiar with how a car works mechanically. With 22,000 miles the van is in the shop for the following problems. Noise in left front, worse in the winter, grinding noise from engine, worse a low idle and strong vibration when applying brakes, worse when on highway. Just received call from service manager and here is the list of things that need to be replaced. Stabilizer links and bushings, Power steering pump, Front brakes and rotors and the two front tires.

My wife and I decided that the Odyssey would be the best bet based on our growing family but soon had doubts.
1. After 4K miles the windows started rolling down automatically when the car was parked - at home, in the parking garage at work, in downtown DC. I took it to the dealership twice before they diagnosed a defective key fob and replaced both keys.
2. At 18K miles we started noticing a little hesitation when driving on the highway between 45-55 miles per hour. I took it to the dealership where they told me the transmission needed to be replaced. Now with a new transmission we have 25K miles and I feel a similar hesitation. I think I need to trade the van before the warranty is up.

Compared to my touring 2009 the new van falls so short.
The inside quality has been reduced to that of an Amerian made van.
The ride is not as smooth.
Options are now overpriced.

My 2009 had an buyer within the hour at above book price.
Interesting that even others see he value in the older models.

You do better o by a used Honda with the old body style.
The old style is a blast to drive.

First a rocker oil sensor caused the engine to hesitate and misfire July 2013. Then Feb 2014 engine misfiring. Barely made it to dealer. Three spark plugs replaced and software update. July 2014 again misfiring, barely running. Made it to the dealer. Three pistons had rings replaced. This is all covered on warranty from a class action settlement I received in the mail.
It appears to me that reliability has gone downhill. The van has 53,000 miles on it.

Just traded a 2007 Odyssey for a 2013 Odyssey EXL .
The car drives Great and all the interiro features are nice but......
WTF
the USB plays in an archaic fashion, you cannot play files as you woudl on your computer or any other car....
The bluetooth DOES NOT show what song is playing...
Its quite a shame that Honda decided to ignore this part of the Odyssey.
I purchased a 2013 Civic a few months back and It has all the features, (USB that you can pay your files in order, Bluetooth that displays the song)
I am wondering why Honda seels a car ^ months later that has such archaic technology.

After 2 years of driving the mini-van, here is my review:
1) Cheap Tires - After 21,000 miles, the original Continental Tires already wore out.
I had to spend over $600.00 for new tires.
2) Too Wide - I had an accident involving my garage and the mini-van fender.
The car is just too wide for my garage.
3) Cheap Spoiler - The spoiler at the top rear of van is made of cheap plastic (but expensive to replace).
I prefer it to be made of metal.
4) Sliding Door Jam - Clicking the pushbutton two times will cause the sliding door to stall.
5) Cheap Plastic Bumpers
6) No Side Molding - Paid about $300 for side molding purchase and installation.
7) Outside Temperatre Gauge not Accurate

We enjoy the stable roadabiity, quietness, comfortable, supportive seats, roominess, smooth quiet engine.
So far, (3700 miles), no squeaks or rattles.
Several minor negatives: the ride is a bit "truck like" (not real "supple), and the dash controls are not" intuitive" - took us quite a while to learn how to program things, work the a/c, etc., as the knobs and buttons are not in expected places, nor do they perform the function I expected.
We finally have it figured out, but even the huge owners manual lacked "how to" information that produced quick understanding.
Gas mileage on a trip at 65 mph often about 30.
Even around town usually over 20.
V-6 has ample power. Overall, we love it.

One small problem!

On two different occasions I have had a problem with accidentally leaving the windows and sun roof open.
Apparently this happens if you do a certain combination (one that I haven't figured out yet) on the remote lock.
As a result my vehicle has been flooded when it has rained.
It seems to me there is a better way.

We have four kids ages 5-12, and this car just replaced our 2008 Touring.
Honda just does a minivan right - this thing is a great kid-hauler.
It has slightly more room inside than our '08, yet the van looks lower, sleeker, and less boxy than our old van.
Decent acceleration, great turn radius, and quality interior materials.
We have yet to hit the EPA mileage in the highway but on our only long trip in it thus far we had a cargo bag on the roof - which probably explains the 23 MPG.
Thing drives much smaller than out is.

Almost perfect! Except...

All-in-all the 2013 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite is a fine mini-van.
We traded in a 2010 Cadillac Escalade for the Odyssey.
We are exceptionally pleased with the overall comfort and flexibility of the seating configuration.
I wish the passenger front seat offered 10 way adjustments for longer trips & comfort.
My biggest issue is with the navigation system. It only displays a few street names when zoomed in on the map.
This is a first of any car we owned with navigation.
Shame on Honda for not updating their software to be on par with almost all other NAV systems currently manufactured.
Honda tech support is aware of the issue.
Besides these two minor issues it is a great mini-van.

Long time Honda owner. Finally traded in my '04 EXL-RES that I bought new on a Wht/Truf '13 EXL-RES.
Many improvements in features and ride.
Love the interior and vehicle is excellent for long trips.
However after 5 months of ownership, quality issues are surfacing.
One wheel replaced for poor finish and now noticed others that should never have passed inspection.
Paint match on bumpers & painted trim is poor. Rough & thin paint (see through to dark plastic) where rear bumper meets quarter panel and base coat runs where rear quarter panel meets side door.
At just over 7K, began experiencing heavy vibration under moderate braking.
Not the quality expected on a $37K+ HONDA vehicle!!

This is my third Honda Odyssey (don't ask me why). My 2014 EX-L has the same problem with brake rotors warping every 12k miles. The driver's seat still lacks comfort for all-day driving ( I transport medical patients and run abt. 300 miles per day).

This new 8-speed transmission will probably cause a class-action lawsuit... it's not going to last. Quite often when slowing for a stop light or other reason, and go to resume speed, the transmission acts like it does not know which gear to go into, and then finally goes into one with a thud!

Had the OEM Fog Lights added to the tune of $600... don't waste your money, they throw light the first 3 feet and then nothing! Worthless.

When you're test drive a 2013 or 2014, make sure you pay close attention to the wind noise and road noise.
It's a design flaw that you can hear outside wind noise when driving above 60mph.
You might not able to hear your kid from the second row with the wind noise.

Honda Odyssey Elite 2014, the top of the line Honda model, one which do not require additional purchases, has a flaw that detracts all positives, and apparently will not be acknowledged by Honda and its dealers. Purchased the vehicle brand new with very few miles. Upon driving the vehicle home for the first time, we noticed a very annoying sound coming from the front of the vehicle, anywhere from the windshield area, to sunroof, we yet do not know. Once the vehicle reaches freeway speeds of 70 plus this death rattle takes over. 3 times at dealership, resealing of windshield each time, but the noise persists. Call Honda, the feel nothing is wrong. Check forums regarding ugly noise.

We bought this van brand new in September 2014 and just traded it in with only 2300 miles on it this month. The Odyssey has a horrible creaking front suspension noise that the dealership won't fix. The van is nice and new, but sounds like an old car that needs new shocks. After allowing the dealership to attempt to fix the problem four times and the van being in for service for over 39 days, we were told by Honda that they are aware of the problem and that they do not have a fix for it right now, so Honda is calling it normal noise. Long story short...there is no fix for it and Honda refused to do the Lemon Law. So, we just decided to trade it in on a better vehicle.

I purchased this new in 2012 and paid cash for this car. It broke down on the interstate 150 miles from Atlanta with a clogged ERG valve with 30,000 miles on it.
The carborator broke apart also and it spent 7 days in the shop.
This was in 2013. Now, 4/2014, I drove 1,000 miles after I changed the oil & all the oil is burning up!
They are going to re-built the entire engine because it is burning oil at a rate of a 30 year old car! I will Never purchase a Honda again!
Do your research because I have after all these problems and many Honda owners have had similar problems.
They are lemons and my $40,000 went down the drain! I will Never Buy Honda Again!

I like most everything about this van, except the rear entertainment center.
Traded in a 2002 Ody with 176k for this one.
I have 3 kids and want to be able to play movies and music for them.
I pop a DVD in on the first road trip and the kids in the third row cannot hear the dialog unless the volume is turned all the way up.
I take it back to dealer to make sure all settings are correct and they tell me it is working as it should.
I call Honda and they tell me passengers should wear the headphones?!
The old Ody's RES worked great in all rows.
Pretty angry that RES will not "entertain".

This Ody replaced my 2003 Ody (I want to 2003 back!). I am very displeased with our 2014 Odyssey's shifting. Acceleration/deceleration is not smooth. This has nothing to do with ECO mode. I did not notice this issue on the test drive (should have done extensive city driving). The overall design of the van is nice, but had I foreseen the transmission issues, I would never have bought it. I could shoot myself for not buying the Sienna (which I had driven [not by choice] as a rental several times). I kept telling myself the Sienna's interior and features are not as nice. But annoying transmissions are far worse of an issue; definitely not worth the extra 2 miles per gallon!

sitting in our yard with a remote possibility that anyone will ever take it away, even for free.Worthless!
We were able to purchase our new Odyssey at a Honda discounted price with amazing finance rate. ,one of the reasons we chose this over the Toyota Sienna.($4000+ in savings) So far the van has gone far beyond our expectations as far as quality.A few issues that are mentioned later. Runs great on the highway, although we have only been on a few trips with it.

After comparing to Sienna we desided to go with the Odyssey. Van looked great but we noticed excessive vibration from day 1. Contacted dealer and they said it will smooth out once broken in. This didn't happen and after many visits back to the dealer to balance tires, update computer etc etc the issue is still there and since they can't solve it we're now being told this vibration is normal. Also the paint on the plastic parts doesn;t match the rest of the car - also normal according to Honda. Road noice was a little more than I expected as well

Honda is getting cheaper, too.

I was looking for a reliable minivan with ample space, high reliability and high resale value. The Odyssey clearly delivers in that space and surprised me with great performance and decent mpg
- I get about 27 MPG on average. From that view and the resale value, it?s an economical choice, even though Odysseys got rather expensive. $38K for a mid-level model is rather pricey for what you get in the end and when you look at the cheap plastics that are used throughout the car. The tech in the car is surprisingly mature. The most annoying feature is without doubt the auto-lock of doors. I can?t remember how often I run out to the garage and only find all doors, except the driver?s door, locked.

I always loved Honda's, but now really disappointed. Engine is not enough (now 2014 still using the same weak engine, the Accord V6 gets 30 additional HP!). I am very upset with the sliding doors, worst design ever! Keeps beeping & stalling, Chrysler makes it better and also the Sienna. Wipers leaves 7 inches un-wiped. Ride is smooth but bad & loud on bumps. (Chevy Traverse is 10x better). At 17,000 miles it started vibrating, I had to change brakes/rotors! Steering wheel feels over-sized. Steering feel not great. Climate controls not intuitive. Remote key fob sucks, and still no remote starter! Turning circle not as tight as Sienna. Ugly gauges. Service engine light not good. Ugly Exterior!

I just bought a new 2014 Odyssey. Got it home, and realized that the width of the vehicle, with the mirrors at normal driving position, did not fit in my garage (width of 92 inches). The website states the width is 79.2 inches, regardless of the style. But this measurement doesn't account for the mirrors. The REAL width of the car is about 92.5 inches, so in order to fit the car into a normal size garage opening, you have to pull one of the mirrors in before you enter the garage door entryway. Not a very good start and no one realizes this when you start looking. I measured my garage before starting to look, but never thought the Honda or Edmunds web sites would be incorrect.

I bought this van a year and half ago.
It was the best purchase I have ever made.
I haul around 3 large dogs, 3 children from 5-13 and there is still room for the husband and our luggage.. I put 25k miles on the van in less than 2 years. I only ever had in the shop for routine oil changes and tire rotation.
I bought this van for its convenience, comfort and above all safety.
The van is loaded with safety features.
Sadly, just this week I was t-boned from the drivers rear by a driver speeding off an exit ramp. The van performed exactly the way I had hoped it would should an accident occur.
The van is totaled and I am walking with only minor injuries.
If you want safe, get Honda!

2nd honda odyssey. 1st was an 08 and it was great. Our 2014 on the other hand has 20000 miles on it and has had the rotors turned 3 times. Not replaced because that's not what the honda specs say to do so they grind them down. It also has a clunk in the front end. I called honda and they suggested the brakes got hot from riding them. The regional rep didn't seem to care and waived the resurfacing cost since the brakes are now out of warranty. No explaining why our 2008 didn't have that problem. We paid more so we could have a good vehicle and that doesn't seem to be the case. We even drive 2 hours to a certified dealer. I will trade very soon.
